Who publishes this site

horsespaintings.com is published by The Sporting Art Register. This policy describes what the site records about a visit, what it does not, and what happens to anything you send to post@horsespaintings.com. It covers this domain only.

What this site actually does

Horse Oil Paintings is a reference register of paintings. There is no account, no profile, no watchlist, no comment section and no mailing list. Nothing on the site asks a visitor to identify themselves.

No analytics script runs here and no advertising tag is loaded. Which pictures a visitor looks at is not recorded, which matters in a field where an interest in a specific painting can be commercially sensitive.

Artwork images are served by the institutions and repositories that hold them, so loading a page reveals your IP address to those hosts, as it would on any page carrying a remote image. The Sporting Art Register neither controls nor receives their logs.

Server logs

Like any web server, the hosting provider records a line for each request: the IP address it came from, the page asked for, the time, and the browser's user-agent string. Those logs exist so that failures can be diagnosed and abuse can be blocked. They are not used to build a profile, are not combined with anything else, and are not sold or shared.

Hosting and image delivery are provided by third parties acting on our instructions. They process request data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

Owners, and why their details stay out of the register

Mail to post@horsespaintings.com is read by the compiler and kept only while the matter is open. This register attracts a category of correspondence that most art catalogues do not: messages from the people who own the paintings.

A message of that kind identifies a valuable object, a household, and often an address. That combination is personal data and a security risk, and it is treated accordingly. No owner's name, town or address is published in an entry without written permission, and the register never records a private location more precisely than "private collection" plus a country.

Owner information is never passed to a dealer, an auction house or a valuer, and this site does not act as an introducer to any of them. If you have already appeared in an entry and want a location reference removed, ask and it will be removed.

Asking what we hold

Because there is no account, the only thing that can be held about an identifiable person is an email they sent. You may ask what that is, ask for a copy, or ask for it to be deleted, by writing to post@horsespaintings.com. Deletion is the default outcome once a question is closed, so in most cases there is nothing left to delete.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Anything material enough to matter will be described rather than slipped in.
