Hand-painted in oil
About this Artwork
A rider named by colour, not by task
The title identifies the figure by a colour word and gives no occupation, no destination and no ground. The record supplies more than the title does: landscape headings for forest, rural and field, a tree heading, and Animal Art > Horse. Between them they place a mounted figure in open country without saying what the figure is doing there.
What the record holds
The date of creation is 1903 and the location line reads Private Collection. The dimensions are 55 x 65 cm. Expressionism is the recorded style, Russian the recorded nationality. The measured colour family of the image is yellow, which is worth stating plainly beside a title that names something else: the two values come from different places, and this catalogue does not reconcile them.
Riding, unassigned
Most records in this collection can be sorted by what the animal is for. This one cannot, and the honest entry says so. A rider crossing a field might be travelling, hunting, working or none of those. The title does not choose, the tags do not choose, and nothing else in the record is available to break the tie. 6 works by this painter are assembled here.
