About this Artwork
The animal as an engine
Threshing separates grain from straw, and before machinery it was done by driving animals over the crop on a prepared floor. A title that names the process names the job exactly. The horse here is not carrying anyone and not pulling a vehicle. It is providing power, in a circle, on a surface built for the purpose.
What the record holds
The date of creation is 1915 and the location is the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. The dimensions are 80 x 100 cm. The recorded style term is Naive Art Primitivism, Georgian the recorded nationality, and the measured colour family of the image is yellow. Rural landscape and architectural headings accompany Animal Art > Horse.
Where the working records sit
18 works by this painter are assembled in this catalogue. This entry is among the plainest of them: a process, a place and a date, with no person named anywhere in the title. Where a record is this bare, the functional reading is the only one available, and it is the one these pages take.
